What We Do

To create an enabling environment for the realization of gender equality and women’s empowerment, UN Women Lebanon advocates and supports social mobilization for legislative reform, works with the partners and the Government of Lebanon to build gender responsive institutions, and delivers essential services to women and girls in need – Lebanese and refugees. UN Women’s work in Lebanon is largely undertaken through the following focus areas:

Women’s Economic Empowerment
UN Women’s economic empowerment portfolio was initiated in response to the impact of the Syrian crisis in Lebanon. It works across the humanitarian-development nexus to build the economic resilience of Lebanese and refugee women...​
Women's Political Participation
UN Women initiated work in support of Women's Political Participation prior to the 2018 parliamentary elections, and has since scaled up that support leading into the 2022 parliamentary and municipal elections.
Women, Peace and Security
Support to the implementation of the National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security, including through promoting access to justice and the provision of legal aid, targeted work on community mediation and conflict prevention, memorialization and reconciliation.
Men and Women for Gender equality
Engaging men and women in issues of gender equality, to support behavioural change.
Humanitarian Impact
UN Women works across the humanitarian, development, peace and security nexus to support national efforts to accelerate the Sustainable Development Goals in Lebanon.

Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF), in Lebanon
In Lebanon, the Women's Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF) provides an important opportunity to address structural funding gaps for women’s participation in peacebuilding and decision-making and to complement the ongoing work and streams of funding in Lebanon.
Intergovernmental support
In intergovernmental forums at the United Nations, Member States come together to debate and seek agreement on global gender equality norms and standards.
UN system coordination
When different parts of the multilateral system act together, they can deliver greater results—and maximize the use of scarce resources. Within the UN system, UN Women is mandated to lead, promote and coordinate efforts to advance the full realization of women’s rights and opportunities.
