Managing Parents’ Psychological Distress (Short version)
Managing Parents’ Psychological Distress: The video is part of a series prepared to support families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and other stressful circumstances, including the Beirut Port Explosion (August 4, 2020). It includes tips and recommendations on how parents/caregivers can cope with stress, tension, and anxiety arising from the challenges and difficulties of trauma. This video was developed based on the identified-needs of caregivers/parents affected by the August 4, 2020, Beirut Port Explosion. The video includes feasible and applicable recommendations which provide a healthy routine and follow-up, such as: eating a balanced diet, regular sleep, avoidance of watching upsetting news and identifying ways to reconnect with family and friends via participation in various activities and partaking in physical activities (such as taking walks). The video also stresses that caregivers should not be ashamed or feel guilty for having thoughts associated with fear or anxiety. It recommends seeking psychological services if symptoms and feelings of anxiety and depression are causing dysfunction and/or negatively affecting one’s ability to partake in day-to-day activities (such as eating and self-caring). This video was developed under the UN Women project “We Can Together- Time for Real Change” implemented by CARE International in partnership with ABAAD and funded by the Government of Japan (April 2020- June 2021).
